Title:
TIRE PRESSURE SENSING TRANSMITTER ACTIVATION PROCEDURE DURING PDS

Component
GENERAL INFORMATION

Model
'04 - '06 4Runner

TSB REVISION NOTICE:
- August 25, 2005: 2006 model year has been added to Applicable Vehicles.
- June 22, 2005: Activation Procedure has been updated. "Required SSTs" section has been added.
- March 21, 2005: Changes were made to the Reference Information and Activation Procedures. 2005 model year has been added to applicable vehicles.
The previous TSB should be discarded.

A tire pressure sensing transmitter is built into each tire valve, and the measured tire pressure data is transmitted through a tire pressure warning system antenna and then to the tire pressure monitoring system receiver.

The tire pressure sensing transmitter used for the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) on the 2004--2005 model year 4Runner needs to be activated during PDS.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2004 - 2006 model year 4Runner vehicles.

REFERENCE INFORMATION:

NOTE:
- After all the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated, the flashing tire pressure warning light goes off.
- The Diagnostic Trouble Codes listed below may be stored in the system until the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated.
- The codes will automatically clear when the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated.

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

REQUIRED SSTS:

ACTIVATION PROCEDURE:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the 'ON' position and check that the tire pressure warning light blinks.

2. Press the valve core to reduce the tire inflation pressure rapidly by 6 psi (0.4 kgf/cm2, 40 kPa), or more within 30 seconds. If the tire inflation pressure is not reduced by 6 psi (0.4kgf/cm2, 40 kPa) or more within 30 seconds, the tire pressure sensing transmitters will not be activated.

This operation is required for the system to be activated and must be performed for each tire (including the spare tire), one at a time.

Check that the tire pressure warning light goes off, after all the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated.

NOTE:
After all tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated, the low tire pressure warning light will come on whenever the tire pressure in any of the tires falls below 24 - 27 psi (1.65 - 1.9 kgf/cm2, 165 - 185 kPa).

3. Check that the sleep mode Diagnostic Trouble Codes are NOT stored in the system. If the sleep mode Diagnostic Trouble Codes are stored, increase the tire inflation pressure of all the 5 tires to 44 psi (3.0 kgf/cm2, 300 kPa) and repeat Step. 1 - 3.
4. If the warning light comes on, increase the tire inflation pressure to 32 psi (2.2 kgm/cm2, 220 kPa) and check that the warning light goes off.

5. Adjust the tire pressure of all tires (including spare tire).
