Removal and Installation

Removal
1. REMOVE HOOD
2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE OUTER FRONT COWL TOP PANEL
4. REMOVE BATTERY
5. DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE
Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
6. W/ CRUISE CONTROL:
REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the 3 bolts and cruise control actuator with the bracket.
7. REMOVE STARTER
a. Disconnect the connector and remove the nut.
b. Remove the 2 bolts, shift control cable clamp and starter.
Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft. lbs.)
8. DISCONNECT GROUND CABLE
Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
9. DISCONNECT THESE CONNECTORS
^ Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch connector
^ Solenoid connector
^ Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) temperature sensor
10. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BRACKET
Remove the bolt, nut and exhaust manifold bracket.
Torque: 20 Nm (200 kgf.cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
11. REMOVE TRANSAXLE 5 UPPER SIDE MOUNTING BOLTS
Torque: 66 Nm (670 kgf.cm, 48 ft. lbs.)
12. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
13. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
14. REMOVE DRIVE SHAFT
15. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE
16. REMOVE STABILIZER BAR
17. REMOVE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY
Remove the 2 steering gear assembly mounting bolts and nuts.
Torque: 181 Nm (1,850 kgf.cm, 134 ft. lbs.)
18. SUPPORT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY AS SHOWN
19. DISCONNECT SHIFT CONTROL CABLE
Remove the nut and disconnect the shift control cable from the bracket.
Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
20. DISCONNECT Power Steering (PS) PIPE
Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the PS pipe from the frame.
Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft. lbs.)
21. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER PIPE
Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the oil cooler pipe from the frame.
Torque: 7.0 Nm (71 kgf.cm, 62 inch lbs.)
22. REMOVE 2 LEFT SIDE TRANSAXLE MOUNTING NUTS
Remove the 2 grommets and nuts.
Torque: 80 Nm (820 kgf.cm, 59 ft. lbs.)
23. REMOVE REAR SIDE ENGINE MOUNTING NUTS
Remove the 2 grommets and 4 nuts.
Torque: 66 Nm (670 kgf.cm, 48 ft. lbs.)
24. REMOVE 2 ENGINE MOUNTING ABSORBER BOLTS
Torque: 48 Nm (490 kgf.cm, 35 ft. lbs.)
25. REMOVE 3 FRONT SIDE ENGINE MOUNTING BOLTS
Torque:
Green color bolt: 66 Nm (670 kgf.cm, 48 ft. lbs.)
Silver color bolt: 44 Nm (450 kgf.cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
26. ATTACH ENGINE SLING DEVICE TO ENGINE HANGERS
a. Install the No.2 engine hanger in the correct direction.
Parts No.:
No.2 engine hanger: 12282-20020
Bolt: 91642-80825
Torque: 19.5 Nm (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
b. Attach the engine chain hoist to the engine hangers.
CAUTION: Do not attempt to hang the engine by hooking the chain to any other part.
27. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 front side mounting bolts and nuts.
Torque:
Bolt: 181 Nm (1,850 kgf.cm, 134 ft. lbs.)
Nut: 36 Nm (370 kgf.cm, 27 ft. lbs.)
b. Remove the 4 rear side mounting bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque:
19 mm head bolt: 181 Nm (1,850 kgf.cm, 134 ft. lbs.)
14 mm head bolt: 32 Nm (330 kgf.cm, 24 ft. lbs.)
Nut: 36 Nm (370 kgf.cm, 27 ft. lbs.)
c. Remove the front frame assembly.
28. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER HOSES
29. SUPPORT TRANSAXLE WITH A TRANSMISSION JACK
30. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER MOUNTING BOLTS
a. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts, 2 brackets and hole cover.
Torque:
A nut: 21 Nm (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
B bolt: 8.0 Nm (80 kgf.cm, 71 inch lbs.)
b. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt, remove the 6 bolts with holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.
Torque: 41 Nm (420 kgf.cm, 30 ft. lbs.)
HINT: At the time of installation, please refer to the following item. First install black colored bolt and then the 5 other bolts.
31. REMOVE TRANSAXLE 3 LOWER SIDE MOUNTING BOLTS
Torque:
A bolt: 48 Nm (490 kgf.cm, 35 ft. lbs.)
B bolt: 37 Nm (380, kgf.cm, 27 ft. lbs.)
32. REMOVE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
Separate the transaxle from engine, and lower the transaxle.
Installation
1. CHECK TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH INSTALLATION
Using calipers and a straight edge, measure the distance between the installed surface and the front surface of the transaxle housing.
Correct distance: More than 13.7 mm (0.539 inch)
2. TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
HINT:
^ After installation, adjust the throttle cable, the shift cable and the park/neutral position switch.
^ Fill ATF and check fluid level.
^ Perform the test drive of the vehicle.
