Removal / Installation




REMOVAL
1. Remove steering wheel pad.

NOTICE: If the airbag connector is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, DTCs will be recorded. Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.




a. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
b. Using a torx socket wrench, loosen the 2 torx screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.




c. Pull out the wheel pad from the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag connector.

CAUTION:
- When storing the wheel pad, keep the upper surface of the pad facing upward.
- Never disassemble the wheel pad.

NOTICE: When removing the wheel pad, take care not to pull the air bag wire harness.




2. Remove steering wheel.
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the steering wheel set nut.
c. Place matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
d. Using Special Service Tools (SST) 09950-50010 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09950-05020) or equivalent, remove the wheel.
3. Remove lower LH instrument finish panel.
a. Disconnect the hood lock control cable.
b. Remove the 2 screws.
4. Remove lower LH instrument panel insert.
Remove the 4 bolts.
5. Remove upper and lower column covers.
Remove the 4 screws.
6. Remove combination switch with spiral cable.
a. Disconnect the 2 connectors.
b. Disconnect the airbag connector.
c. Remove the 3 screws.
7. Remove spiral cable.

NOTICE: Do not disassemble the cable or apply oil to it.

8. Remove No.2 heater to register duct.
Remove the clip.




9. Disconnect No.2 intermediate shaft assembly.
a. Place matchmarks on the shaft assembly and control valve shaft.
b. Loosen the bolt A and remove the bolt B.
10. Remove steering column assembly.
a. Disconnect the connectors.




b. Loosen the hole cover clamp bolt.
c. Remove the 2 column assembly set bolts and nuts.
11. Remove No.2 intermediate shaft assembly.
Remove the bolt.
12. Remove column hole cover.
Remove the hole cover from the shaft assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. Install column hole cover.
Install the hole cover to the shaft assembly.
2. Install No.2 intermediate shaft assembly.
Temporarily tighten the bolt A.
3. Install steering column assembly.
a. Torque the 2 column assembly set bolts and nuts.
Torque: 25 Nm (19 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: While tilting up the steering column, fix the tilt lever to the highest position and tighten the bolt and nut.





b. Torque the hole cover clamp bolt.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (48 inch lbs.)
c. Connect the connectors.




4. Connect No.2 intermediate shaft assembly.
a. Align the matchmarks on the shaft assembly and control valve shaft.
b. Torque the bolt B.
Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.)
c. Torque the bolt A.
Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.)
5. Install No.2 heater to register duct.
Install the clip.
6. Install spiral cable.
7. Install combination switch with spiral cable.
Tighten the 3 screws.
Connect the airbag connector.
Connect the 2 connectors.
8. Install upper and lower column covers.
Tighten the 4 screws.
9. Install lower LH instrument panel insert.
Tighten the 4 bolts.
10. Install lower LH instrument finish panel.
a. Tighten the 2 screws.
b. Connect the hood lock control cable.




11. Center spiral cable.
a. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
b. Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn the cable.
c. Then rotate the cable clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the marks.

HINT: The cable will rotate about 2.5 turns to either left or right of the center.

12. Install steering wheel.
a. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
b. Torque the steering wheel set nut.
Torque: 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.)
c. Connect the connector.
13. Install steering wheel pad.

NOTICE:
- Make sure the wheel pad is installed with the specified torque.
- If the wheel pad has been dropped, or if there are cracks, dents or other defects on the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
- When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and that they are not pinched between other parts.

a. Connect the airbag connector.




b. Install the wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screws are caught on the screw case.
c. Using a torx socket wrench, torque the 2 screws.
Torque: 8.8 Nm (78 inch lbs.)
14. Check steering wheel center point.
