Required Tools & Material

Warranty Information

Overview
Due to the design of the coil spring and strut assembly on 1996 - 2001 model year RAV4 vehicles, the Branick Spring Compressor requires an adapter to remove and replace the spring from the strut assembly.

The Spring Adapter allows the Branick Spring Compressor to compress the coil spring by (Continued) engaging the hooks below the spring perch, as shown.

Precautions
Use of the Branick Spring Compressor (P/N BRNM-ST7200) in Conjunction With the Branick Spring Adapter (P/N BRNM-ST728).

Please observe the following precautions when using the Branick Spring Compressor and the Branick Spring Adapter:

^ Carefully inspect the Spring Compressor and Spring Adapter for cracks or other deformation prior to each use.

^ Use the Branick Spring Adapter (P/N BRNM-728) only on the 1996 - 2001 model year Toyota RAV4. Use on other applications may exceed the tool design limits.

^ Do not compress the coil spring further than needed to facilitate the repair.

^ Before using either product, read and fully understand the operating instructions and all decals on the Spring Compressor. This is necessary to prevent injury to the operator and damage to the product.

^ Use these tools on strut springs only. Do not attempt to compress any other type of spring, or use these tools for any other purpose.

^ Do not use either tool if it is visibly worn, distorted or damaged.

^ Always check condition of the compressor rubber hook pads on all six hooks before using these tools. Replace if damaged or missing.

^ Always wear appropriate eye protection.

^ Inspect the spring and strut assembly for any damage or corrosion. Spring breakage during compression could cause injury.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the entire strut assembly from the vehicle (see the Repair Manual for procedure).

2. Place the Branick Spring Adapter along the bottom side of the lower spring perch (see illustration for proper placement).

3. Place the strut assembly and Spring Adapter in the Branick Spring Compressor as shown.

4. Compress the coil spring using the Branick Spring Compressor in conjunction with the Branick Spring Adapter.

A. Compress the coil spring using hand force ONLY. (Do NOT overtighten!)

B. Remove the nut at the top end of the strut rod.

C. Slowly and carefully release the pressure on the spring and remove the strut assembly from the compressor.

5. Remove the coil spring from the strut.

6. Remove the Branick Spring Adapter from the old strut.

7. Place the Spring Adapter on the new strut and reassemble in reverse order.
