Cylinder Head

STD 10.76 - 10.97 mm (0.4236 - 0.4319 inch)
Minimum 10.40 mm (0.4094 inch)

Spark Plug Tube
Protrusion 43 - 44 mm (1.69 - 1.73 inch)

TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS
Intake Manifold
Tighten To 21 Nm. (15 ft. lbs.)

Exhaust Manifold
Tighten To 49 Nm. (36 ft. lbs.)

Camshaft Timing Gear
Tighten To 74 Nm. (54 ft. lbs.)

Camshaft Bearing
Tighten To 15.5 Nm. (12 ft. lbs.)

Camshaft Bearing Cap Removal and Installation Sequences
Proper removal and installation procedures are essential to camshaft durability and to avoid damage. Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly; Service and Repair for detailed camshaft removal and installation procedures.

No. 1 Cylinder Head Cover To Cylinder Head
Tighten To 8 Nm (69 inch lbs.)

No. 2 Cylinder Head Cover To No. 1 Cylinder Head Cover
Tighten To 5.5 Nm (48 inch lbs.)

No. 2 Cord Clamp Support Plate To No. 6 Camshaft Bearing Cap
Tighten To 5 Nm (43 inch lbs.)

Cylinder Head To Cylinder Block
1st Pass 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.)
2nd Pass Turn additional 90°
3rd Pass Turn additional 90°

Cylinder Head To Timing Chain Case
Tighten To 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)

NOTE:
^ The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 3 progressive steps [steps (b) (d) and (e)].
^ If any cylinder head bolt is broken or deformed, replace it.

(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil on the threads and under the heads of the cylinder head bolts.





(b) Install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts, in several passes, in the sequence shown.
If any one of the cylinder head bolts does not meet the torque specification, replace the cylinder head bolt.





(c) Mark the front of the cylinder head bolt with paint.





(d) Retighten the cylinder head bolts 90° in the numerical order shown.
(e) Check that the painted mark is now facing the side.
(f) Retighten the cylinder head bolts by an additional 90°.
(g) Check that the painted mark is now facing rearward.





(h) Install and torque the 2 mounting bolts.
