EGR Backpressure Transducer: Testing and Inspection
EGR VACUUM MODULATOR INSPECTION
1. Connect TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool or equivalent. Refer to Ignition System.
2. Inspect EGR vacuum modulator operation.
(a) Disconnect the 2 vacuum hoses (from ports P and R of the EGR vacuum modulator) from the vacuum pipe, and plug them.
(b) Disconnect the vacuum hose (from port Q of the EGR vacuum modulator) from the EGR vacuum modulator bracket.
(c) Blow air into port Q. and check that air passes through to the air filter side freely.
(d) Start the engine, and maintain speed at 3,500 rpm.
(e) Repeat the above test. Check that there is a strong resistance to air flow.
If operation is not as specified, replace the EGR vacuum modulator.
(f) Reconnect the vacuum hoses to the proper locations.
3. Disconnect TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool or equivalent.
