Front Differential Seals

SEAL REPLACEMENT
1. Before removing, drain the differential oil.
2. Remove the front propeller shaft.
3. Remove the companion flange by performing the following.
a. Using a chisel and hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.

b. Using the 09330 - 00021 Special Service Tool (SST), hold the flange, then remove the nut and plate washer.

c. Using the 09950 - 30010 (09951 - 03010, 09953 - 03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020) SSTs, remove the companion flange.

4. Using the 09308 - 10010 SST, remove the oil seal and oil slinger.

5. Use the 09556 - 22010 SST to remove the rear bearing from the drive pinion.

6. Using the 09308 - 00010 SST, remove the bearing outer race.

NOTE: Do not scratch the taper surface of the outer race.

7. Using a screwdriver and hammer, bend the oil storage ring and drive it out.
8. Remove the old bearing spacer.
9. Install the new bearing spacer.

10. Using the 09316 - 60011 (09316 - 00011, 09316 - 00021) SSTs and a hammer, install a new oil storage ring.
11. Using the 09316 - 60011 (09316 - 00011, 09316 - 00021) SSTs and a hammer, install the bearing outer race then the rear bearing.

12. Install the oil slinger and oil seal by performing the following.
a. Install the oil slinger.
b. After coating the lip of the oil seal with MP grease, use the 09214 - 76011 SST and a hammer to install a new oil seal. The oil seal drive in depth is 1.0 mm (0.039 inch).

13. Using the 09950 - 30010 (09951 - 03010, 09953 - 03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020) SSTs, install the companion flange on the drive pinion. Place the plate washer on the companion flange and apply light coat of hypoid gear oil on threads of a new companion flange nut.

14. Using the 09330 - 00021 SST to hold the flange, torque the nut to 196 Nm (145 ft. lbs.)
15. Adjust the drive pinion preload.
16. Stake the drive pinion nut.

17. Install the front propeller shaft the fill differential with oil after tightening the differential bolts to 49 Nm (39 ft. lbs.).
