Wheels and Tires: Testing and Inspection
PROCEDURE1. Inspect the tire by checking for the following.
a. Check the tires for wear and for the proper inflation pressure.
b. Check the tire runout, it should measure 3.0 mm (0.118 inch) or less.
2. To rotate the tires, see the illustration for where to rotate each tire.
3. Inspect wheel balance by performing the following.
a. Check and adjust the off-the-car balance.
b. If necessary, check and adjust the on-the-car balance.
c. Unbalance after adjustment should measure 13.0 g (0.029 lbs.) or less.
4. Check wheel bearing looseness and see if there is no backlash in the bearing shaft direction.
5. Check the front suspension for looseness.
6. Check the steering linkage for looseness.
7. Check the ball joints for looseness.
8. Check and make sure the shock absorber works properly and also check for oil leaks, mounting bushings for wear and the bounce of the front and rear of the vehicle.
