Speed Sensor Signal and Deceleration Sensor Check

CAUTION: While checking the Speed Sensor diagnosis system, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) does not operate and brake system operates as normal brake system.

SPEED SENSOR AND DECELERATION SENSOR DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM

INSPECTION

1. Inspect battery positive voltage.
Inspect that the battery positive voltage is 10 - 14 Volts.

ABS Warning Light:

2. Check that the warning light turns ON.
(a) Confirm that center differential is free.
(b) Turn the Ignition Switch ON.
(c) Check the ABS Warning Light turns on for 3 seconds. If not inspect and repair or replace the fuse, bulb and wire harness.
(d) Check the ABS Warning Light turns off.
(e) Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
3. Do following steps.

Connect Terminals Ts And E1:

(a) Using Special Service Tool (SST) # 09843 - 18020, connect terminals Ts and E1 of the Data Link Connector (DLC)1.
(b) Start the engine.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks:

(c) Check the warning light blinks about 4 times every 1 second, as shown.
4. Inspect Deceleration Sensor operation.
(a) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km (12.4 mph) or more, depress the Brake Pedal moderately.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks (Deceleration Sensor Operation):

(b) Check the warning light turns on while braking.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks (Speed Sensor Signal Change):

5. Inspect Speed Sensor signal change.
(a) Drive the vehicle faster than 45 km/h (28 mph) for several seconds.
(b) Check the warning light signal. If the warning light signal is abnormal, perform the steps 6 and 7.

NOTE:
- If the Deceleration Sensor operation in step 4 does not occur, an abnormal signal is output.
- The high-speed check is possible at 80 km/h (50 mph) or higher.

6. Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
(a) Stop the vehicle and the warning light will begin to blink.
(b) Using SST, connect the terminals Tc and E1 of DLC1.
SST 09843 - 18020

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks:

(c) Read the number of blinks of the ABS Warning Light.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks (Malfunction Code):

NOTE: If normal, the warning light blinks about 2 times every 1 second.
If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the smallest numbered code will be displayed 1st.

7. Repair malfunctioning parts.
Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.

NOTE: When repairing or replacing parts, turn the Ignition Switch OFF.

8. Remove SST.
Remove the SST from terminals Tc, Ts and E1 of the DLC1.
SST 09843 - 18020

Connect Terminals Ts And E1:

(a) Using SST, connect the terminal Ts and E1 of the DLC1.
SST 09843 - 18020

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks:

(b) Check the warning light blinks about 4 times every 1 second.
4. Inspect sensor detection point.

Inspect Sensor Detection Point (Rear Side Of Vehicle):

(a) Jack up the rear side of the vehicle slowly.

NOTE: When measuring the height, measure at the center of the lower body of the vehicle.

(b) Check the warning light does not turn on.
If the warning light turns on, inspect the Deceleration Sensor installation. If the sensor installation is OK, replace the Deceleration Sensor.
(c) Jack down the vehicle slowly.

Inspect Sensor Detection Point (Front Side Of Vehicle):

(d) Jack up the front side of the vehicle slowly.

NOTE: When measuring the height, measure at the center of the lower body of the vehicle.

(e) Check the warning light does not turn on.
If the warning light turns on, inspect the Deceleration Sensor installation. If the sensor installation is OK, replace the Deceleration Sensor.
(f) Jack down the vehicle slowly.
5. Inspect sensor operation.
(a) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more, lightly depress the Brake Pedal.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks:

(b) Check there is no change in the warning light pattern.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks:

(c) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more, depress the Brake Pedal a little strong.
(d) Check the warning light turns on while braking.

Ex: ABS Warning Light Blinks:

(e) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more, depress the Brake Pedal strongly.
(f) Check the warning light pattern changes while braking, as shown.
