Ignition Timing: Adjustments
Fig. 62 Ignition Timing Mark - 0 BTDC:
1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor sub-diaphragm and plug the hose end.
2. Connect a strobe timing light and start engine.
3. Warm-up engine until coolant reaches normal operating temperature.
4. Check the ignition timing and compare with specification. Fig. 62
Ignition Timing: 0° BTDC at max. 950 rpm
5. If adjustment is required, loosen the distributor bolt and turn the distributor to align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and timing tab. Recheck the timing after tightening the distributor bolt.
6. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the distributor sub-diaphragm.
7. Check idle advance timing specification. Fig. 63
Fig. 63 Ignition Timing Advance Mark - 12 BTDC:
Ignition Timing: 10 - 14° BTDC at max. 950 rpm
8. Check idle speed and adjust if necessary, (Refer to adjustment procedure).
