Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

1. Connect one end of an ohmmeter to the (-) side of the ignition coil. Connect the other end to the (+) side of the ignition coil.

Primary Coil Test:

Primary Resistance (Cold): 0.4 - 0.5 ohms

2. Connect one end of an ohmmeter to the high tension terminal of the ignition coil. Connect the other end of the ohmmeter to the (+) side of the ignition coil.

Secondary Coil Test:

Secondary Resistance (Cold): 8.5k - 11.5k ohms

3. Connect one end of an ohmmeter to the (+) coil terminal and the other end to the igniter body.

Coil Insulation Resistance:

Insulation Resistance: Infinity

4. If Primary coil resistance, Secondary coil resistance, or insulation resistance is not within specifications, replace ignition coil.
