Glow Plug - System Inspection, Slow Start

When using recommended starting procedure described in Owner's Manual and engine does not start immediately (2 to 10 seconds), inspect and repair as follows:

Inspection and Repair Procedures

Current Sensor:




1. Inspect wire terminal at glow current sensor (located on left rear corner of cylinder head behind EGR valve). If wire harness is touching the rear engine hook, loosen the current sensor terminal retaining nut and move terminal wire away from engine hook and retighten the nut.

Fusible Link:




2. Inspect 80 amp glow plug fusible link (located in engine compartment right front corner), and replace if blown.

When the above inspection 1 and 2 are okay, and a problem still exists, refer to the Diesel Electrical Diagnosis Section in 1985 Truck Repair Manual (Pub. No. 36247A).
