Section 2 - Valve Body Modification

SECTION 2 - Installation procedure for kit #2, Valve Body Modification (P/N 04006 - 10235)


Oil Cooler Tube Kits (P/N 32921 - 35120) & (P/N 32922 - 35140)


Step 1 Verify that the vehicle was built:


Thru : January 1986
Ending VIN: RN5S-7004790 (cab chassis) RN7S-0004786 (cab chassis)

If your vehicle was built after the above date, the following procedure is not required. Return to Step 8 in Section 1.

Step 2 Installation of valve body modification kit.

A. If the oil has not been drained as instructed in Section 1 do so now.

B. Following the appropriate repair manual procedures, remove and disassemble the lower valve body to gain access to the oil cooler by pass valve spring. (See Figure 11)
C. Replace the OEM oil cooler By-Pass Valve Spring with the spring supplied in Kit #2.

D. Using the new gaskets supplied in Kit #2, and following your repair manual, reassemble the valve body assembly.

C. Replace the OEM oil cooler By-Pass Valve Spring with the spring

B. Install new unions and oil cooler tubes (See Figure 12)

C. Torque the union nuts located at the transmission to 16 ft.lb. (220 kg-cm)

Step 4 Install flexible hose to the cooler lines and oil coolers.

A. Using the new length of hose and clamps supplied in Kit #2, connect the inlet cooler tube to the oil to water cooler and tighten clamps.

B. Connect the new oil to air cooler in series with the factory oil to water cooler as shown in Figure 13.

Step 5 Final assembly

A. Install radiator grille, make certain that there is no interference between the grille and the oil cooler lines.

B. If interference does exist, file the radiator grille to provide clearance. (See Figure 14)
C . Complete final installation of the grille and front bumper.

D. Fill transmission with now Dexron II ATF Fluid (will require approximately 2 liters).

E. Start engine and check all connections for leaks.

F. After transmission is to operating temperature, check fluid level and add as necessary.
