A/C - Vent Registers Loose in Housing

SUBJECT:
HVAC VENT REGISTERS LOOSE IN HOUSING
MODEL:
ESTEEM, VITARA AND GRAND VITARA
YEAR:
1998-99 (ESTEEM), 1999 (VITARA/GRAND VITARA)
CONDITION:
HVAC Vent Registers are loose in the housing and do not hold a set position.
CAUSE:
Insufficient friction between the register and register housing.
CORRECTION:
Install a wave washer between the Vent Register Swivel Bushing and Vent Register.
PARTS INFORMATION:
1. Using a small blade screwdriver, CAREFULLY spread the side of the vent register housing away from the vent register just below the swivel point.
NOTE:
Tape the end of the screwdriver to help prevent damage to the vent register and housing.
2. Remove the vent register noting the swivel bearing and swivel limit slot on the vent register and the swivel and limit pegs in the housing.

3. Remove the vent register swivel bearing.
NOTE: The bearing is directional.
3a. Correct bearing direction.
4. Install wave washer on to bearing.
5. Reinstall bearing with wave washer on to vent register noting bearing direction.
6. Carefully reinstall the vent register, bearing side first, into the housing side that have both the swivel and limit pegs.
7. Carefully push in the opposite side until it snaps into place.
8. Check for proper operation.
