EGR Backpressure Transducer: Description and Operation

EGR Back Pressure Transducer (EGR-BPT) Cut-Away View:

PURPOSE
The EGR Back-Pressure Transducer (EGR-BPT) will allow vacuum to pass to the EGR Valve only when the correct amount of exhaust back-pressure is present.

LOCATION
On the intake manifold, near the EGR Valve.

OPERATION
Exhaust back-pressure acts on the lower portion of a spring loaded diaphragm. When the exhaust pressure overcomes the spring tension, the diaphragm raises and covers a vacuum bleed port. Vacuum will then pass through the BPT Valve to the EGR Valve.
