Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

Removal

Fig. 11 Removing Tie Rod From Steering Knuckle:





1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel hub as outlined under WHEEL HUB & BEARING OUTSIDE INNER RACE
3. Disconnect tie rod end from knuckle using tie rod remover Fig. 11.
4. Remove strut bracket bolts from strut bracket, then ball stud bolt.
5. Remove knuckle.

1. Remove outside oil seal, snap ring, outside bearing, inside oil seal and inside bearing, Fig. 13.
2. Remove bearing outer race/inner bearing using press and tools shown in Fig. 14.

Assembly

Once bearing outer race is removed, bearing set (outer race, bearings and inner races) should be replaced.
1. Press fit bearing outer race/inner bearing using tools shown in Fig. 15.
2. Lubricate and install bearing outer race, bearings and oil seals.
3. Drive in inside oil seal until flush with stopped surface of knuckle.
4. Drive in outside oil seal until its end contacts snap ring using tools shown in Fig. 16.

Installation

1. Reverse removal procedure to install, torquing all bolts/nuts to specifications.
