Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Each test must be preformed within 3--5 seconds to avoid coil from burning.Pull-In Test
Fig. 8 Pull-in Test Lead Connections:
1. Disconnect field coil from terminal M.
2. Connect test leads as shown in Fig. 8.
3. Pinion (overrunning clutch) must jump out.
4. If pinion is not as specified, replace magnetic switch.
Hold-In Test
Fig. 9 Hold-in Test Lead Connections:
1. Perform ``Pull-In Test,'' then disconnect negative lead from terminal M, Fig. 9.
2. Pinion must remain out. If pinion retracts, replace magnetic switch.
Pinion Return Test
Fig. 10 Pinion Return Test Lead Connections:
1. Perform ``Hold-In Test,'' then disconnect negative lead from body, Fig. 10.
2. Pinion must retract quickly. If pinion remains out, replace magnetic switch.
No-Load Performance Test
Fig. 11 No-load Performance Test Lead Connections:
1. Connect test leads as shown in Fig. 11.
2. Pinion should move out and motor should run without stopping.
3. Check ammeter current. Refer to Starting and Charging/Starting System/Specifications.
