Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Fuel Injector, Delivery Pipe, etc.:





CAUTION: A small amount of fuel may be released after fuel line is disconnected. In order to reduce chance of personal injury, cover fitting to be disconnected with a shop cloth. Place that cloth in an approved container when disconnection is completed.

REMOVAL
- Relieve fuel pressure.
- Disconnect battery negative cable at battery.
- Remove ISC solenoid valve and EGR modulator bracket from intake manifold.
- Disconnect fuel hoses (fuel feed and return hoses) and vacuum hose from delivery pipe
- Disconnect coupler from each injector.
- Remove fuel delivery pipe with fuel injector.

NOTE: Be careful not to drop injectors.

- Remove injectors from delivery pipe.


INSTALLATION
- Replace injector 0-ring with a new one using care not to damage it. Install grommet to injector.

Checking O-ring Installation:





- Apply thin coat of fuel to injector 0-ring and then install injectors into delivery pipe. Make sure that injectors rotate smoothly. If not, probable cause is incorrect installation of 0-ring. Replace it with a new one.

Installing Insulators And Spacers:





- Check if insulator is scored or damaged. If so, replace.
- Install spacers and insulators to cylinder head.

Checking Injector Installation:





- Install injectors with delivery pipe and tighten fasteners to specified torque. Make sure injectors rotate smoothly.

FASTENER TORQUE
18 - 28 Nm (1.8 - 2.8 kg/m, 13.5 - 20.0 lb-ft)

- Connect fuel hoses and vacuum hose to delivery pipe.
- Connect electrical connectors to injectors.
- Install EGR modulator bracket and ISC solenoid valve to manifold.
- Connect negative battery cable.
- With key ON and engine OFF, check for fuel leaks.
