Instruments - Fuel Gauge Operating Characteristics

Section Title: Body & Cab & Accessories

TSB No.: TS 37 07188

Division: Automotive

Category: Technical

SUBJECT:
FUEL GAUGE WILL NOT READ FULL AFTER FILL UP

MODEL(S):
GRAND VITARA (JB627)

YEAR:
2006-2008

CONDITION:

The fuel gauge appears to not move from empty after fuel fill up or takes a long time to move.

CAUSE:

The fuel meter has two different modes for gauge movement: Normal Mode and Refuel Mode.

In Normal Mode, it takes about 55 minutes for the gauge to move from E to F, this will steady the gauge from moving up and down as the fuel moves in the tank while driving.

In Refuel Mode, it takes around 1 second for the gauge to read the fuel correct fuel level after refueling.

CORRECTION:

DO NOT REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER! This is a normal function of the fuel gauge. If after refueling the gauge does not read full, the gauge will indicate full after one hour on its own. For customers that complain of this condition, please explain that this is normal operation and advise the customer to leave the ignition key OFF during refueling.
