Spindle: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Hoist vehicle and remove wheel.
2. Remove wheel hub as previously outlined.
3. Support lower arm with jack.





4. Remove tie rod end.

Special Tool (A): 09913-65210 or equivalent.

5. Remove ball stud nut.





6. Remove strut bracket bolts from strut bracket.





7. By tapping knuckle on its end with hammer or using bearing puller, disconnect knuckle from ball stud.
8. While lowering jack, remove knuckle/wheel spindle comp.
9. Remove knuckle cap, dust cover and wheel spindle.

INSTALLATION
Reverse removal procedure noting the following.





NOTE: When installing wheel spindle to knuckle, coat their mating surfaces with sealant.

"A": Sealant 99000-31110 or equivalent.

Tightening Torque for wheel spindle: 50 Nm (36.5 ft. lbs.)





1. Remove grease, old sealant and dusts from mating surfaces of knuckle cap and knuckle to clean, apply water tight sealant to cap mating surface evenly, and install cap to knuckle.

"B": Water Tight Sealant 99000-31090 or equivalent.





2. Bending ball stud split pin.
After tightening ball stud castle nut, bend split pin so that it is in close contact with stud head or castle nut as shown. Also, be sure to insert its bent end so that its projection ("A" in figure) is made as small as possible.

Tightening Torque (a): 58 Nm (42 ft. lbs.)
