EARLY/LATE TYPE IDENTIFICATION

FUEL PUMP OPERATION
Depending on the type of ECM installed in the vehicle, fuel pump operation will vary on both the EARLY and LATE type ECM. Please note the differences between these two types, as listed below:
EARLY TYPE
- The ECM will activate the fuel pump when it receives a signal from:
^ the engine starter circuit the CMP (Camshaft Position) sensor.
NOTE:
The fuel pump on vehicles with the EARLY type ECM will not operate when the engine is not running and the ignition switch is in the "ON" position. To activate the fuel pump with the EARLY style ECM without cranking the engine, insert a jumper wire into terminals E128-4 (P/B wire) and E128-1 (B/W wire) of the fuel pump relay coupler.
LATE TYPE
- The ECM will activate the fuel pump when it receives a signal from:
^ the engine starter circuit
^ the CMP (Camshaft Position) sensor.
- The fuel pump will operate for three (3) seconds when the ignition switch is initially turned to the "ON" position.
