CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
This Service Bulletin is for information only and is intended to offer assistance when diagnosing and repairing Subaru Cruise Control Systems. (Line installed and SOA Approved Accessory Units).

It has been determined that many malfunctions of these Cruise Control Units can be attributed to poor electrical contacts. This condition becomes more likely with repeated removal and installation of the connectors and probing connectors with test equipment.

In order to minimize the chances of a poor electrical connection, observe the following precautions:

1. Avoid the "Swapping of Parts Method" of diagnosis, as frequent plugging and unplugging of electrical connectors can produce a loose fit.

2. Always take extreme care when probing any connectors with test equipment as this may create a loose fit by distorting the metal terminals.

3. Be certain all female terminals grip tightly. Pay particular attention to the Line Installed Control Box. (A more secure fit can be achieved by closing the female terminals with the tip of a test light or other sharp object).

4. On SOA Accessory units, particular attention should be given to the connector to Control Box contact point. The Control Box connector has a soldered build-up which may wear down after excessive plugging and unplugging.

5. Always make sure the metal terminal ends are fully seated in the plastic containers.
