C. Antenna Connection to Radio

If also the FM reception is very poor, there may be a break in the center conductor of the antenna cable where it connects to the radio. Even intermittent poor reception, e.g. on rough road surfaces or bumps, may be an indication of this fault.

1. Remove the radio from the dash but do not disconnect it.

2. Turn on the radio and try to tune it to a station with bad reception.

3. Try temporarily connecting a loose and fault-free antenna cable between the radio and the antenna. If the reception is noticeably improved, change the antenna cable.

4. Make sure the antenna cable is not looped around the bracket for the impact cable on the steering wheel member and that the antenna cable/connector is not jammed up against the heating and ventilation unit.

5. Refit the luggage compartment trim.

In certain cases, it may be better to change the positions of the radio and the ashtray to make more room for the antenna cable behind the radio.
