The Campaign

Saab Cars USA, Inc. has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a noncompliance which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 1996 900 5-door models.

On certain 1996 900 5-door models, the front seat safety belt assembly outboard attachment plate may have been incorrectly heat treated. This incorrect heat treatment could cause the belt to not withstand the forces required under FMVSS 209 (S4.4.b.1) and 210 (S4.2.2).

Vehicles within the affected VIN Serial No. Range are to be inspected using the procedure that follows. If the belt(s) are found to be within the affected date code, they are to be replaced.

A VIN Status List is included for your use as a checklist to keep track of cars that are completed or that remain to be done. Owners known to Saab Cars USA, Inc. are identified on this list. Should you not receive a VIN Status List, this is an indication that no affected vehicles have been sent to your dealership.
