Action
1. Inspect the Campaign plate on all 5-door 900s in the VIN Serial No. Range listed above to see if the plate is stamped in position A5. If the plate is stamped with a numeral 1-8 in position A5, no further action is required. Do not file a warranty claim. Cars shipped from ports-of-entry after 4/25/96 require no modification. Many vehicles were inspected and/or repaired at the ports-of-entry or in Sweden.2. See Figure 1.
a. If after inspecting both front seat safety belts, you find them to be okay, stamp the campaign plate in location "A5" with a numeral 8 and record the vehicle information for later submission of a claim.
b. If after inspecting both front seat safety belts, you find one or both requiring replacement, proceed to step 3 below.
CAUTION
Make sure the ignition is switched off to avoid setting SRS fault codes.
NOTE
Do not use air tools on the two mounting bolts as the nuts mounted in the body are not replaceable.
3. Replace either one or both of the front seat safety belts as determined by your inspection, following the directions shown in 900 Service Manual Section 8:2 Interior equipment (P/N 03 55 438), pages 853-23 through 853-27. Note the following:
^ Remove the air outlet grille after you've removed the trim. This will assist in proper alignment of the grille when reassembling (i.e., put trim back on, then fit the grille).
^ Mark the orientation of the existing gold bracket against the sill of the car to assist in proper alignment of the new belt assembly. This will ensure smooth belt reel operation.
^ Mount the large lower bolt first by hand and then mount the upper bolt.
^ If the threads in the nuts mounted in the body need to be cleaned up, use an upper body nut tap (Size 8 x 1 .25 mm) or lower body nut tap (Size 7/16-20 fine).
4. Check for smooth belt operation.
Parts should be ordered on an as-needed basis using RUSH VOR ordering procedures. Make sure you include the VIN Serial No. on your order form for each vehicle you are ordering parts for. Fax your order to 770-279-6505.
