An adapter button is now available to upgrade the puller used to remove the power steering pump pulley.

The power steering pumps for the 8- Valve B 201) and 16-Valve (B 202) engines are different. The power steering pump puller (P/N 89 96 423) must be modified before it can be used on both types of pumps. A redesigned adapter button for the puller has been provided for this purpose (Figure 1).

The adapter button has been designated as a required special tool. One will be automatically mailed to your dealership during the next special tool mailing. The button should be installed in the puller as outlined below.

Puller Upgrade Procedure

1. Pry out the original adapter button in puller P/N 89 96 423. If necessary, remove the spring clip for the button from the puller.

2. Push the new adapter button and spring clip into the puller (Figure 2). Check that the button is secure in the puller.
