SUBJECT: AIR FLOW KIT INSTALLATION TIPS
APPLICATION: 1986- 9000 5-DOOR MODELS
With the introduction of the 9000 air flow kit, P/N 02 44 152, the following important issues must be addressed before installing the kit:
^ This kit must be installed by a technician with body working experience.
^ The kit should be fitted to the car before painting. Remove the kit from the car once all alignments and adjustments are made and paint the panels individually.
^ "Pin holes," or a small area of surface porosity, may possibly be found on any piece of the kit, especially near a corner or the end of a panel.
When painting with a two-stage paint, these "pin holes" may be hidden or difficult to see until the clear coat is applied, at which time they become obvious. If the panels are primed with a light color (yellow), the "pin holes" will show up and can be filled before the panel is painted. Use a flexible body filler such as Morton's Impact Coating.
^ If an electric lift is used to service an air flow equipped car, the rocker sills may interfere with the swing arms of the lift. In some cases, this may prevent safe operation of the lift or cause damage to the sill panels.
^ The front spoiler has integrated openings for the Hella fog light kit P/N 02 81 717. The original equipment Bosch fog lights on 5-door models do not fit the air flow spoiler. However, the Bosch lights can be utilized with the addition of the above-bumper fog light brackets, P/N 02 46 363, (two required).
