SUBJ: Announcement of Warranty Coverage Extension, 1988 9000 Automatic Transmission
COPIED: Dealer Principal
To signify the importance of Saab owner loyalty and Saab's ccmmitment to the durability of our cars, we are extending warranty coverage on the 1988 Saab 9000 automatic transmission to 60 months/70,000 miles whichever occurs first.
The extended coverage applies to the automatic transmission assembly and its internal components, including the lubrication system. For reference, the covered components are those with failure codes beginning with 420--, 440--, 441--, 442--, 443--, 444--, 473--, and 475--. Shift controls (432--) and any parts on manual transmissions are not included in this warranty extension.
In January, 1991, Saab Cars USA, Inc. will send a letter to owners of 1988 9000 models equipped with autcnatic transmissions for which we have a name and address in our files. A coverage update sticker will be included (as was done in the Saab Value Retention Program) for the owner to place in his/ her Warranties & Service Record Booklet. However, this extended coverage is transferable and does not depend on having received a letter or sticker. As with the 36 month/36,000 mile New Car Warranty, the 60 months begin with the regular warranty start date and 70,000 miles refers to the total miles on the car.
Warranty claims under this extension should have the regular information and coding but should use warranty type of coverage code 10 (same code as for SVRP). Updated warranty manual pages will be issued. If you have further questions on coverage, please contact the Warranty Department by DCS electronic mail or telephone.
If a 1988 9000 owner has previously paid for all or part of the cost of a post-warranty automatic transmission repair that falls under this warranty extension, the letter will instruct the owner to submit the bill to the Consumer Relations Department. Please assist any such owners with copies of repair orders, etc., that are needed.
