SUBJECT: THROTTLE CABLE AND CLIPS LOCATION ISSUE: 02/88-1032

APPLICATION: M87- 9000 MODELS WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

A new longer throttle cable with revised clamps that locate the cable have been introduced into 1988 Saab 9000 automatic transmission production.

The cable must be properly routed and secured with the clamps shown below, otherwise the throttle setting could be upset and give the wrong shift points. The M88 cable has a stiffer sheath which is more resistant to stretching and also prevents shift point changes. When ordering a throttle cable be sure to check the ZF type number on the identification plate located on top of the torque converter housing, to order the correct cable for the transmission.

Previous to the introduction of ZF exchange units, the M87 Turbo transmission superseded to the M88 Turbo transmission. If an M88 transmission was installed in an M87 car, an additional clip (position 3) is required to secure the throttle cable because the M88 cable is longer than the M87 cable.
