FILE IN S.I. Man VOL. I

SEC. A-3 PG. 109
ISSUE: 08/88-1066
SUBJECT: CHECKING INSTALLATION OF POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE

APPLICATION: CERTAIN 1988 900 TURBOS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

On early 1988 Turbo models with automatic transmissions, the positive battery cable may be strapped to the turbocharger water pipe. This method of installation has been changed in order to avoid contact between the positive battery cable and the water pipe.

1988 model 900 Turbos with automatic transmission of the following VIN ranges should be inspected at the next routine service.

J3000000-J3013014 J7000000-J7017251

If inspection reveals that the positive battery cable is strapped to the water pipe, the following modification should be carried out.

1. Cut off the tie strap securing the positive cable to the water pipe.

Be sure that the battery ground cable is fitted between the transmission cover and the new clamp.
4. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 10- 15 ft.lbs. (14-21 N-m).
5. Snap the positive cable securely into the clamp, and check that the cable does not touch the turbocharger water pipe.
