SUBJECT: FUEL PUMP INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
FOR NEW FUEL TANK ISSUE: 12/87-1019
APPLICATION: 1988 900 MODELS
A new fuel tank (P/N 89-76-425) is being installed in all 1988 900 models (VIN Serial Numbers J3001528-, J7004074-) which requires a new procedure to install the fuel pump.
The fuel tank has a new bottom shape which is deeper under the fuel pump. Also, the inlet for the fuel return line now is further from the fuel pump and has a built-in check valve.
Because of these revisions to the tank a bushing (P/N 93-24-021) is now required to install the check valve (P/N 89-76-961) in the tank. The revisions also cause the Bosch pump and canister to be oriented differently than before.
The dimension for positioning the fuel pump (complete with feed pump) vertically in the new tank is 9.5 in. (242 mm). The fuel pump must be installed with the feed pump to the left as shown in the illustration.
