Water Pump: Service and Repair



Coolant Pump:





REMOVAL
1. Loosen the expansion tank cap and raise the car.
2. Remove the center air deflector, place a drip tray under the radiator and open the radiator drain plug.
3. Remove the right-hand front wheel and the front part of the wing liner.
4. Remove the drive belt from its pulleys.

Coolant Pump:





5. Remove the bolts and remove the coolant pump pulley.
6. Remove the belt tensioner pulley.
7. Remove the clip securing the oil lines to the timing cover.
8. Remove the clip securing the water pipe to the cylinder block.
9. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the pump.
10. Remove the bolts securing the pump to the bracket and remove the pump.

Coolant Pump:





INSTALLATION

1. Clean the sealing surfaces and assemble the coolant pump with a new gasket
and torque to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
2. Install the coolant pump and torque to 22 Nm (16 ft lb).
3. Refit the clips to the oil lines and secure them.
4. Fit the water pipe to the pump using a new 0-ring. Push the pipe well in and do it up.
5. Connect the radiator hoses to the coolant pump.
6. Install the belt tensioner pulley. Make sure that the plate on the pulley is located in the slot in the bracket.
7. Install the belt pulley and torque to 8 Nm (6 ft lb).

Coolant Pump:





8. Install the belt, tension it and measure the belt tension.
9. Raise the car, check that the radiator drain plug is tightened and install the center air deflector.
10. Install the wing liner, fit the wheel and lower the car and
torque the wheels to: steel wheels 115 Nm (85 ft lb), alloy wheels 135 Nm (100 ft lb).
11. Fill with coolant and test pressurize the cooling system.
