Application: 9000 5-door Models

When installing the accessory rear decor panel, P/N 02 43 006, on a 9000 5-door, the following two notes regarding the installation should be observed.



Handle Surround

The handle surround, which is a component of the decor panel kit, may have been produced with a dimensional error. If a decor panel is installed with a misbuilt handle surround, a number of installation problems could be incurred:


^ The adhesive tape strip at the bottom of the decor panel will not line up properly on the rear hatch.

^ The license plate mounting holes in the decor panel will not line up properly on the hatch.

^ Cracks in the decor panel (around the upper corners of the license plate indentation) will occur if forced into position.


For the decor panel to fit properly, the handle surround must meet the dimensions as shown in Figure 1.



If the handle surround dimensions do not meet this specification, the edges must be filed as shown in Figure 2.

Note

Do not attempt to modity the license plate holes in the decor panel as a solution to the installation problem as the risk of incurring cracks in the panel will still be present.



Installation Instruction Deletion

When installing the rear decor panel, steps 8 through 11 of the installation instructions should not be performed.

The deleted steps entail adjusting the rear tail lights in order to align them with the decor panel. If the lights are moved from their original position, stress related cracks in the lenses may occur or the rear hatch could contact and damage the lenses (Figure 3).
