Fuel Pressure Regulator: Testing and Inspection

1. Connect pressure gauge 8393514 or equivalent, onto fuel pressure regulator inlet and outlet ports. Ensure pressure gauge is installed vertically.
2. Connect either a cooling system pressure tester or a vacuum pump on to pressure gauge.
3. Remove fuse No. 30, then connect a jumper wire and a switch between fuse No. 30 and fuse No. 27, 28 or 29 to provide current to the fuel pump.
4. Start fuel pump by moving switch to the ON position. Line pressure should rise to intake manifold atmospheric pressure.
5. If necessary, use the vacuum pump to raise vacuum in the fuel pressure regulator. The drop in line pressure should correspond with vacuum and line pressure readings listed below.

0 psi ...............35.0 psi
(-)2.8 psi ..........32.2 psi
(-)5.6 psi ..........29.4 psi
(-)8.4 psi ..........26.6 psi

6. If necessary, use the cooling system tester to raise the pressure in the fuel pressure regulator. The rise in line pressure should correspond to the reading of the pressure gauge readings listed below:

0 psi ..............35.0 psi
2.8 psi ............37.8 psi
5.6 psi ............40.6 psi
8.4 psi ............43.4 psi
