Introduction

This service campaign addresses two possible problems related to original equipment Sony Sound Systems installed in certain Saab Turbo models by Saab-Scania:

A. Short rear speaker life - affects M81-1/2-83 3-dr. Turbo models with Sony XR70 and XR75 systems and 4 in. diameter rear speakers mounted in the parcel shelf side supports.

B. Noise interference - affects M82-1/2-83 APC Turbos (3 and 4 dr. models) with Sony XR70 and XR75 systems which have RCA phono-jack amplifier cables.

Purchasers of the affected vehicles will receive a service campaign notice to inform them that they are eligible to have the above problem(s) corrected at no charge according to the instructions and parts prescribed in this S.I. THIS S.I. IN NO WAY AUTHORIZES REPLACEMENT OF ANY PARTS OR ANY MODIFICATIONS OR REPAIRS OTHER THAN THOSE PRESCRIBED HEREIN. Any defective component which is replaced in conjunction with this work may only be claimed on a separate warranty claim and only if it is covered by an applicable Saab warranty that is in effect at the time of repair. Prior repairs will not be considered.

A small supply of parts proportional to the number of affected vehicles in the dealership service area will be shipped to each dealer ahead of the mailing of the owner notices. These parts will be debited to the dealership parts account. Reordering is the responsibility of the dealer based on the local demand. A list of owners to whom notices will be sent in your service area is attached. Your parts manager will be advised by separate letter of the number of kits in your initial allotment. The owner notification date is tentatively set for March 20, 1984 pending completion of initial parts shipments.
