SUBJECT: MODIFICATION I.D. PLATE ISSUE: 06/85-767
SUPERSEDES: 10/84-717
Beginning with M82 900 model Saabs, a modification I.D. plate was introduced for the purpose of recording Saab recall, service campaign or service fix modifications.
Saab-Scania of America, Inc. has begun to utilize this plate and advises that any marking of this plate be done only in conjunction with specific campaign or S.I. instructions contained in the S.I. associated with the applicable modification.
Material needed:
Punch #8 - P/N 02-97-713 (or similar 3/8" punch from your tool jobber)
A punch was sent free with the S.I. for Recall 265. Additional punches may be ordered from your Saab parts depots.
Marking the plate:
^ Numbers 1-6 are only to be used by the Factory.
^ Number 7 is only to be used for work carried out directly by Saab-Scania of America, Inc.
^ Number 8 is to be used for work carried out by the dealer.
The Service Information shall specify whenever marking of the plate is necessary. The S.I. will also specify a position to be marked which is unique to the modification involved.
The example to the right shows position A2 being stamped. Only use figure 8.
Numbers other than 8 indicate that the modification has previously been performed.
