REMEMBER . .
that diagnosis of driveability problems requires complete checking of the vehicle systems. Don't take anything for granted. The following may be helpful:

^ Pressure check the CIS system. (Refer to S.I. 06/77-271, Sec. 2, P. 58 and S.I. 06/77-274, Sec. 2, P. 61 in Service Information Supplement #1 to review the basics of CIS diagnosis.

^ Check that return line check valve is installed in proper direction of flow.

^ Perform emission panel relay test sequence (M81-83). Check ignition settings.

^ Check electrical connections at starter and grounds to transmission case (a loose connection here will cause momentary disruption of fuel pump and Lambda operation).

1. Always reinstall the oil filler cap on the valve cover after changing or adding engine oil. The large amounts of engine oil that will splash out, should the cap be left off, makes a large mess in the engine compartment and if the conditions are right, could result in an engine compartment fire.

2. Before condemning any electronic control be sure that the vehicle's system voltage is up to specs, and that there are no loose connections. A great many electronic units that are returned under warranty function perfectly when tested at the correct operating voltages.

3. Cleanliness is extremely important when working on Automatic transmissions, power steering pumps and racks, as well as fuel injection components. It only takes a very small piece of dirt to foul up an otherwise good repair job.

4. A new screw with a modified hex drive is being used in limited application on Saabs. The drive type is called "TORX" and is used in two sizes of screws referred to as T25 and T35. The drive bits are designed to be used in a 1/4" drive type handle.

These screws are currently used on sun visor, grab handles and front seat mounts.

5. The 12 tooth head used on door hinge bolts since 1977 is a HIGRIP No. 8. The bits and 3/8" drive adapters are available through most tool suppliers.
