Brake Shoe: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove brake drum.
4. Place tool clamp Fre. 05 or equivalent, onto wheel cylinder.
5. Remove upper return spring.
6. Disconnect parking brake cable.
7. Remove two brake shoe retaining springs.
8. Tilt toothed lever as far as possible toward axle shaft assembly.
9. Carefully separate brake shoes from wheel cylinder.
10. Pull primary brake shoe link outward from primary brake shoe assembly.
11. Move toothed section back to its initial position.
12. Tilt primary brake shoe 90 degrees.
13. Using a suitable screwdriver, remove lower spring.
14. Loosen, then remove primary brake shoe.
15. Remove secondary brake shoe.
16. Reverse procedure to install.
