Eliminating Symptoms On Body Exterior - Replacing Rear Section Of Front Wheel Housing Liner (wheel Housing Liner Sticking Up Or Noises From The A-pillar Area/SY2209)

Symptom







- In the front wheel housing, the rear section of the wheel housing liner is sticking up at the bottom (-> Figure 1 ) and/or
- Noises from the A-pillar area.

Cause, date of introduction and remedial action

Cause
If there are no strengthening ribs, the wheel housing liner can start to stick up and/or noises can come from the A-pillar area when the vehicle is driven at high speed and in rain.

Date of introduction
17.12.2009, parts that were checked and found to be OK are installed in vehicles as of the following vehicle identification numbers.

Remedial action
- If this problem occurs on a vehicle before the specified date of introduction, replace the rear section of the wheel housing liner with a new wheel housing liner with strengthening ribs.
- Also check that the new type of underbody panelling with the related strut is installed: --> If the old type of underbody panelling and strut are installed, these parts must also be replaced.

INFORMATION:
- Even if a vehicle has a new wheel housing liner with strengthening ribs, it may have the old type of underbody panelling and strut.
- If the complaint "Noises from the A-pillar area" is received, this possibility must also be checked out and the underbody panelling and strut may have to be replaced.

Replacing rear section of wheel housing liner

1. Only replace the rear section of the wheel housing liner on both sides.







2. Check to see if the new front underbody panelling ( -item 1- ) and the new strut ( -item 2- ) are already installed.







Figure 3 shows the old type with front underbody panelling ( -item 1- ) and strut ( -item 2- ).


3. If the old type of front underbody panelling ( -item 1- ) and strut ( -item 2- ) are installed on the vehicle, these parts must also be replaced.






3.1. Replace front underbody panelling ( -> Figure 4 ).
3.2. Replace strut ( -item 2- ).
