WM 708449 Eliminating noise symptoms - Reworking headliner
General information
Symptoms
Creaking noises from around the headliner/sliding roof frame.
Causes and remedial action
Creaking noises can occur while driving due to relative movements between the headliner and sliding roof frame.
In the event of a complaint, felt strips must be affixed to the fastening clamps for the headliner and sliding-roof covering frame to remedy the situation on vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction March 2006.

Preliminary work
1. Open the sunroof.
1.1. Switch on ignition.
1.2. Open sunroof fully.
1.3. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Loosen front roof trim panel and leave it hanging. -> 601219 Removing and installing switch for sunroof - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
Reworking headliner
1. Carefully unclip covering frame -1- all the way round using a plastic wedge -arrows- and pull it forward to remove it.

2. Cut ten felt strips each approx. 30 mm long.
3. Check fastening clamps and replace them if necessary.
4. Stick felt strips -1- onto the fastening clamps -2- for the headliner -3-.

5. Cut two felt strips each measuring 4 mm x 200 mm.
6. Stick felt strips -1- on the centre of the outside of the lower edge of the covering frame -2- at the left and right.

7. Position covering frame -1- at the sliding roof cut-out and clip it in at the fastening clamps -arrows-.
Installing covering frame
Subsequent work
1. Secure front roof trim panel. -> 601219 Removing and installing switch for sunroof - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Close the sunroof.
2.1. Switch on ignition.
2.2. Close the sunroof.
2.3. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
