Audio System - Poor Radio Reception
Poor Radio Reception - Diagnosis of Antenna Amplifier PossibleVehicle Type:
Cayman/Cayman S
Model Year:
As of 2006 up to 2008
Equipment:
PCM2.1 (I No. 665)
Antenna amplifier antenna diversity (I No. 440)
Concern:
Diagnosis of antenna amplifier.
Information:
Diagnostic of antenna amplifier possible as of PIWIS DVD ROM 6.0.
Investigations of antenna amplifiers replaced on warranty because of interference in radio reception have shown that almost all antenna amplifiers are fully functional.
Using the PIWIS Tester and installed test software version 6.0/11/2004 (or higher), an antenna amplifier diagnostic (antenna diversity test) is possible for more precise fault localization on vehicles with PCM2.
For claims regarding radio reception interference, first an antenna amplifier diagnostic (antenna diversity test) is to be performed and if necessary, troubleshooting as well according to the specifications of the PIWIS Tester (see "Procedure" section).
The antenna amplifier is to be replaced if the radio reception has not been improved after troubleshooting and fault remedying have been performed.
The associated vehicle analysis log is to be included with faulty antenna amplifiers when submitting a warranty claim to the Atlanta Warranty Test Center.
NOTE:
- PAG has also noticed that loudspeaker amplifiers returned under warranty are often coded using the Part ID of the antenna amplifier (Part ID 9184).
- Please make sure to use the correct component coding when returning:
- Part ID 9184: Antenna amplifier
- Part ID 9144: loudspeaker amplifier (BOSE, Harman)
Tools:
PIWIS Tester 9718
Work Procedure:
Antenna amplifier diagnostic
1 Connect PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and switch on.
2 Switch on ignition.
3 In the start display of the PIWIS Tester, call up the "Diagnostics" menu and select the vehicle type "Cayman".
4 Select the control unit"PCM2.1" and after a control unit search access PCM2.1 function selection by pressing F12.
5 Select component "PCM2.1-GW" (PCM2.1 gateway) and access PCM2.1-GW function selection by pressing F12 .
6 Access menu item "Special function" and select the function "Antenna Diversity Test".
7 Perform antenna diversity test (electrical current measurement) using the PIWIS Tester. When performing the test, follow the instructions of the Tester.
