Clutch Release Bearing: Service and Repair


Removing and installing release bearing

Preliminary work

1. Remove engine-transmission unit.
2. Remove the transmission.
3. Remove clutch.

Removing release bearing

Information
The snap ring can be fitted only using a workshop press. Use a block of hardwood as a pressure piece.





Overview





1. Position the release bearing -3- and press down on the pressure plate -6- using a suitable pressure piece (e.g. block of hardwood) until the snap ring -1- can move freely.
2. Remove snap ring -1-.
3. Take off the release bearing -3-.

Installing release bearing

Information
^ Do not grease sliding surfaces of release bearing and guide sleeve.





Slot

^ The sliding surface of the release bearing is slotted irregularly. This is not a defect.





Overview





1. Fit spacer -5- and spring washer -4- on release bearing -3-. Ensure that spring washer is seated correctly.

2. Engage release bearing with lugs (twist lock) in the cut-out between the tongues of the diaphragm spring.
3. Position release bearing and press down on the pressure plate -6- using a suitable pressure piece (e.g. block of hardwood) and press until the snap ring -1- can be fitted.

Subsequent work

1. Install clutch.
2. Refit the transmission.
3. Install engine-transmission unit.
