Removing and installing sealing ring for cardan flange








Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle at the specified jacking points.
2. Remove underbody panel.
3. Remove cardan shaft.
4. Remove cardan flange.
5. Place oil collection pan under the transmission.

1. Remove circlip.

2. Remove washer.
3. Use a suitable tool, e.g. a sharp punch, to make a hole in the sealing ring.

4. Screw sheet metal screw approx. 1 cm into the sealing ring.

5. Tap out the sealing ring on the screw using slide hammer kit Nr.168.

1. Lever out sealing ring with hook VW 681.

1. Fill the space between the dust and sealing lips on the new sealing ring with grease, e.g. Liqui-Moly.

2. Drive sealing ring into the transmission using pressure piece 9671.





Tapping in sealing ring

3. Fit washer.
4. Fit circlip.

1. Fill the space between the dust and sealing lips on the new sealing ring with grease, e.g. Liqui-Moly.

2. Tap sealing ring into the transmission using pressure piece 9668.

Subsequent work

Subsequent work - Manual transmission

1. Install cardan flange.
2. Install cardan shaft.
3. Check transmission oil and top up if necessary.
4. Fit underbody panels.
5. Lower the vehicle.

Subsequent work - Automatic transmission

1. Install cardan flange.
2. Install cardan shaft.
3. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
4. Fit underbody panels.
5. Lower the vehicle.
