NOTICE
Incorrect maintenance/cleaning of wheels with decorative logos
^ Decorative logo can be damaged or become detached
--> Optimal adhesion of the logo is guaranteed after approx. 48 hours. Do not put any pressure on the logo during this time.
--> Maintain a safe distance of at least 50 cm or more when cleaning wheels using high-pressure cleaning equipment.
--> Avoid cleaning the wheels close to the decorative logo using cleaning equipment.
Work Procedure: 1
Preparatory work
1.1 Drive the vehicle onto a lifting platform and raise it --> Workshop Manual '400000 Lifting the vehicle'.
1.2 Remove all four wheels --> Workshop Manual '44051900 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Removing"'.
1.3 Press the tire bead down off the rim flange at the outsides of the rim --> Workshop Manual '444019 Mounting tyres (removing and fitting tyres) - for vehicles with and without Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM)'.
1.3.1 Fit and clamp a clean disc wheel on the tire removal/mounting machine.
Check that the tire is seated securely and without damage (as described in the instructions provided for the tire removal/mounting machine).
1.3.2 Unscrew the valve insert to release the air so that the tire is depressurized.
1.3.3 Set the tire bead press-off tool in accordance with the tire size (19-inch).
1.3.4 Then adjust the setting precisely (the press-off roller must not touch the rim when positioned on the tire). If this is not the case, the rim flange may be damaged by the press-off rollers.
Information
Turn the wheel counter-clockwise when pressing the tire off the rim (loosening the tire bead).
Otherwise, excessive forces on the fastening bolt of the machine can break the bolt.
1.3.5 Press off the top tire bead (outside of tyre) --> Figure 3-1-.
1.3.6 Coat the tire bead with mounting paste even at this stage of the procedure to make it easier to press the tire bead off.
1.3.7 Loosen the bead press-off tool until it is back in its original position.
1.3.8 Loosen the disc wheel on the tire removal/mounting machine, lower it and set it down level on the inside of the wheel.
2 Apply the decorative logo on the rim.
2.1 Clean dust and grease off the bonding area for the logo on the rim using isopropanol (alcohol or spirits).
2.2 Place the protective film side of the decorative logo on a clean, level surface.
2.3 Carefully detach the backing sheet from the protective film at one side and fold it over (--> Figure 4).
2.4 Carefully pull the backing sheet off the protective film.
CAUTION
Logo not prepared/installed correctly
^ Risk of damage to logo
^ Inadequate logo adhesion
--> Do not touch the bonding surfaces (logo and vehicle - following cleaning) with your fingers.
--> Only touch adhesive side of logo in the middle and not at the corners or along the edges (if contact is unavoidable).
--> The object (logo, vehicle, etc.) and ambient temperature must be at least 59° F. (15° C.). Maintain this or a higher temperature for approx. 24 hours.
--> Optimal adhesion of the logo to the vehicle is guaranteed after approx. 48 hours. During this period, do not apply excessive pressure on the logo, e.g. by washing the vehicle (either manually or in a car wash) or by checking adhesion by pulling or peeling off the logo, etc.
2.5 Stick on decorative logo.
2.5.1 Position the protective film and logo over the rim flange on the outside of the wheel with the help of another person and align it as follows:
^ Marking (--> Figure 5-1-) centered on the valve (--> Figure 5-2-) 50 that the PORSCHE logo is on the opposite side (--> Figure 5)
^ Control edge (all the way around, narrow = --> Figure 6 -A-) concentric to the rim flange/middle of the rim
Information
For application on dark rims, the protective film can be cut in one area of the narrow edge and a length of approx. 2 cm can be removed in order to check the position of the logo (control edge = Fig. 6-A-/rim flange = Fig. 6-B-).
2.5.2 Place the protective film at this position on the rim flange and check the position of the control edge if necessary (--> Figure 6).
Information
The edge of the decorative logo can be repositioned correctly, i.e. it can be detached from the rim flange by quickly pulling the protective film backup again in the area to be corrected.
2.5.3 Press the decorative logo onto the rim flange, starting opposite the PORSCHE logo (--> Figure 7).
NOTICE
Incorrect procedure
^ Risk of damage to paintwork
--> Do not use tools with sharp edges.
--> Cover the area you are working on.
--> Do not use aggressive cleaning agents/solvents.
2.5.4 Carefully fold the protective film over opposite the PORSCHE logo and ONLY cut into the backing sheet (NOT the decorative logo) at this position if necessary (--> Figure 8-1-).
Carefully pull the protective film off the wheel at a 90° angle to the wide, surrounding edge (--> Figure 8-2-) and logo.
2.5.5 Pull the surrounding control edge carefully off the rim flange (--> Figure 9).
2.5.6 Carefully burst any bubbles that appear (--> Figure 10 -circles-) with a knife and press the decorative logo back onto the rim flange again in this area.
2.6 Apply logos to the remaining three wheels in the same way.
3 Concluding work
3.1 Mount the tire on the rim --> Workshop Manual '444019 Mounting tyres (removing and fitting tyres) - for vehicles with and without Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM)'.
3.2 Install all four wheels on the vehicle --> Workshop Manual '440519 Removing and installing wheel with central bolt'.
3.3 Lower the vehicle and drive it off the lifting platform --> Workshop Manual '400000 Raising the vehicle'
