Shift Cable: Testing and Inspection
Eliminating power transmission symptoms - Reworking pre-selector cable
General information
Symptoms
Reverse gear cannot be engaged.
Causes and remedial action
On 911 Carrera (997) and 911 Carrera S (997) vehicles with manual transmission, a pre-selector cable installed in the gearshift bracket under tensile stress can prevent the gate of reverse gear from being reached. As a result, reverse gear cannot be engaged.
In the event of a complaint, the adjustment pin of the pre-selector cable must be loosened and the pre-selector cable must be readjusted in the gearshift bracket.
If the complaint cannot be remedied after readjustment of the pre-selector cable, the transmission must be replaced.
