Removing belt tensioner

INFORMATION: As from model year 2002, the three-point belts in the Boxster (986) will contain belt tensioners as standard.
After the belt tensioners have been triggered, they must be replaced. The triggering can be read out with the Porsche System Tester using the airbag control module (POSIP). Observe the direction of travel.







1. Disable the fuse -1- for the electrical plug on the belt tensioner with a screwdriver in the -direction of the arrow-.







2. Pull the plug -A- out of the belt tensioner -arrow-.
3. Remove lead -B- from the lead mount.
4. Unscrew the fastening screw -C- and remove the belt tensioner.

Installing belt tensioner

- Refer to Safety regulations for vehicles with airbag and belt tensioner

1. Install belt tensioner. Observe the direction of travel -arrow 3-.







2. Position the belt on the roll-over bar with the aid of the guide pin -D-.
3. Tighten fastening screw -C-, tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.).
4. Insert electrical plug -A- in the belt tensioner.
5. Insert lead -B- into the lead mount.
6. Push in fuse -1- with e.g. a screwdriver in the -direction of travel- until the fuse engages.







7. By gently pulling on the belt -arrow 2-, check the winding ability of the belt strap.
8. Read out the fault memory with the Porsche System Tester.
