Engine Repairing - Cylinder Head and Head Gasket
Vehicle Type:
Boxster
Model Year:
As of 1997 (V)
Concern:
Expanded repairs to the engine, with engine removed or installed.
Information:
Effective immediately, cylinder head repairs have been added to the engine components approved for field service. The subsequent specific repairs have been added to the approved list of serviceable components which can be repaired on the Boxster engine:
- Cylinder-head, remove and install
- Cylinder-head disassembly and reassembly
- Cylinder-head gasket replacement
The above-mentioned repairs may be performed in the event of cylinder head gasket leaks, or defects with the cylinder head itself. When performing cylinder-head repairs, check the surfaces of crankcase and cylinder-head for damage or pitting. If excessive damage in the area of the sealing surface exists (such as chips or pitting), replacement of the complete engine will be necessary.
The following components were previously approved and remain field serviceable:
- Engine coolant pump and thermostat
- Engine oil pump
- Cylinder head oil return pumps
- Oil pan
- Oil cooler
- Flywheel/drive plate
- Engine mounts and brackets
- Rear main seal (rear crankshaft sealing ring)
- Front pulley seal (front crankshaft sealing ring)
- Valve covers, camshafts and hydraulic lifters (valve tappets)
- 0-ring for intermediate shaft flange
- Protective tube for spark plugs
- Engine drive belt
- Exhaust system
- Alternator
If engine repairs become necessary which are outside the scope of the components listed, or if engine replacement is necessary: contact the Technical Service Department and your Porsche District Service Manager before performing repairs, or replacing an engine.
