Installing Roof Transport System (RTS)

Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996)

Model Year:
as of 1999 (X)

Concerns:
Fitting Roof Transport System (RTS)

Notes:
A RTS can be fitted on the above-mentioned vehicle in order to transport bulky items. Safe transport of the items is made possible with this RTS and the further add-on modules, e.g. ski rack, bicycle carrier, surfboard holder or roof box.

Warning!
Risk of damage to the convertible top or Roof Transport System when the Roof Transport System is fitted

- as a result of convertible top operation;

- as a result of cleaning of the vehicle in an automatic car wash!

> Remove fuse No. 3 in row D for convertible top operation (see fold-out sheet in lid of the fusebox) if the Roof Transport System is fitted. This will prevent unintended operation of the convertible top.

> Remove complete Roof Transport System before the vehicle is cleaned in the automatic car wash.

Danger of accident (death / danger to yourself and other road users!)

- as a result of losing the Roof Transport System or individual add-on modules,

- as a result of changed vehicle handling (higher center-of-gravity and larger area exposed to the wind) if the Roof Transport System is fitted, and especially if it is loaded,

- as a result of incorrect loading of the Roof Transport System.

> Regularly check the Roof Transport System and add-on modules before each trip and during an
extended trip to ensure it is seated securely. Tighten all fastening screws using the tools included in
with the assembly.

> Adapt driving style accordingly.

> If the RTS is not in use, it should be completely removed from the vehicle in the interest of driving
comfort and fuel economy.

> If possible, load the Roof Transport System so that the load does not project beyond the sides of the
Roof Transport System. Under no circumstances exceed the width of the vehicle.

> The center-of-gravity of the load should lie as low as possible in relation to the Roof Transport System.

> Distribute the load evenly on the loading surface.

> Secure load to prevent it from shifting during the trip.

Observe the instructions in the Driver's Manual for further information about the Roof Transport System. Please pass this information on to the customer!
