Assembly Notes
Sealing The Crankcase Mating Surfaces
- Use only Loctite 674 to seal the surfaces.
- Loctite 574 hardens only when it comes into contact with metal and when no air can get to the joint. After applying the sealant, do not wait for more than approx. 10 minutes before reassembling the components since the sealant applied directly to the metal may otherwise start to cure.

Removing Old Sealant
- The old sealant coat must not necessarily be removed when repairs are made. Degrease the surface only and apply a new coat of sealant after allowing the solvent to flash off.

- The new coat of Loctite will soften the old coat remaining on the metal surface and will cure again after assembly.
- In case the old sealant should have to be removed, use a fine wire brush or Loctite adhesive remover 80646.

Applying Sealant
1. When applying the sealant manually. it is recommended to use a short-pile velours roller. In addition, a cup with a ribbed surface is required so that excess sealant can be wiped off.

2. Using a velours roller, apply Loctite 574 sealant evenly to the mating surface of the left crankcase section, including the bearing saddle area. Coat area around studs using a paintbrush.
