Standard Transaxle

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine guard.
2. Remove air distributor rail mounted on left and right sides of transmission.
3. Separate driveshaft from differential flange.
4. Disconnect solenoid electrical connectors.
5. Remove wire clamp holding solenoid wire to body, then remove tie-wrap from starter.
6. Remove clutch slave cylinder attaching bolts, then position slave cylinder aside. Do not disconnect slave cylinder hydraulic line.
7. Using a 10 mm socket, two short extensions tool No. 427, transverse handle tool No. 425, shop made extension pipe and a ratchet, remove upper starter mount nut.
8. Remove bolt from righthand side of starter assembly using transverse handle tool and extension pipe.
9. Use right hand to hold tool in place above transmission, then remove remaining starter bolt with ground cable.
10. Turn starter until solenoid points towards the halfshaft, then remove starter from its support.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use two tie wraps to attach solenoid to alternator wire.
b. Torque starter attaching bolts and nuts to 29 ft. lbs.
c. When attaching halfshaft flange to transmission end, make sure mating surfaces are clean and free from grease. Apply a thin coat of copper paste to bolt threads and torque to 59 ft. lbs.
